Will retailers gain more traction than banks or other payments players in m-Commerce space?

I thought I’d circulate two links to stories I read this morning on Finextra which show how the large retailers/merchants are taking steps over their own destiny in the m-commerce space (with a little help from others!). Carphone Warehouse has now launched their SimplyTap mobile check out with a reach of 3.5 million customers and over in the US, the major retailers have teamed up so only a matter of time before they do it here. I’m assuming both work on the usual four party model though. Will established large retailers gain more traction than newer players in the mobile payments space...
